Leewood in the Snow

In the event of snow or inclement weather, please use common sense when dealing with trash, parking and snow removal.

Trash

  • If snow is predicted the night before trash pickup, please wait until the next morning and evaluate whether to put out your trash. Trash pickup services may not be running due to inclement weather.
  • Go to the American Disposal website and look for the red alert bar to see if service will be affected by inclement weather.
  • If the contractor cancels pick-up, they will not come out again until the next regularly scheduled day (if then). If you had put out your trash for pickup, please take your trash back to your property; do not leave it curbside.

Snow Removal - Streets

  • The streets within Leewood are owned by the Association. Therefore, the Association contracts with an outside vendor for snow plowing and sanding. Fairfax County is not responsible for snow removal on the streets within Leewood.
  • Snow plowing of accessible roadway areas will begin once snow accumulations reach 2 (two) inches or more. Plowing is first done to open roadways for access by emergency vehicles then to open the roadways as wide as reasonably possible to enable passage of vehicles. Snow plow operations may necessarily result in depositing plowed snow in areas that present an inconvenience to persons or vehicles. This is a consequence of the storm.
  • The contractor will respond only on request of the Leewood Board of Directors for services on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

Snow Removal - Sidewalks & Parking Spaces

  • Homeowners are responsible for clearing snow and ice from sidewalks in front of their unit.
  • The snow contractor is not responsible for snow removal from parking spaces; this is the responsibility of owners and residents.
  • Remember that guests may still need to enter and park in the community. Do not shovel snow from parking spaces into other parking spaces.
