Biography
Rosemarie (Rose) Weber
7013 Leestone Street

I have been a resident in Leewood, along with my partner, since June of 2003. However, I have only been in permanent residence since December 2005. Prior to that, although Leewood was my home, I was required by work to live out of the state and outside the country. In January 2006 I retired after 26 years of service in the United States Marine Corps. I have two daughters and a grandson, all of whom live in Beaufort, SC.

I was born in Salinas, California and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1979. I graduated basic training at Parris Island, SC with honors, earning a meritorious promotion to the rank of Private First Class and spent the next 26 years performing a myriad of jobs in locations all over the world. My primary occupation in the Marine Corps was executive level administration, but I also spent time as a Drill Instructor and Heavy Equipment Operator. I served in Iraq from April 2003 until September 2003, working for the Ministry of Defense. I also spent 4 years on the staff of the Commandant of the Marine Corps and another 4 years on the staff of the Secretary of Defense working directly for the Under Secretary, Personnel and Readiness. I was promoted through the ranks, earning numerous awards and honors along the way and retired as one of only 48 female Master Gunnery Sergeants (E-9’s) in the entire Marine Corps.

Now that I am retired from the service and no longer find myself moving every few years I have the opportunity to participate in the affairs of my community. I believe that change can only be brought about through positive action, and so, taking part in the Leewood Homeowners Association is something I view as an obligation. It was not my original intent to jump in so deeply right away, but I attended the Annual meeting, board members were needed and I was nominated, so I accepted. I was not screened to sit on the board, nor were any specific qualifications made known to me, however, much of my experience in the service lends itself well to my being on the Board. Not only am I an administrator by trade, but over the years I have sat in various positions on various communities’ boards as the Marine Corps representative and have held positions on Department of Defense Boards as well. I have no criminal record outside a few traffic tickets, and consider myself to be pretty average with regard to credit rating and debt.

My goals as a board member are to be as active as my schedule allows and to have some positive impact on conduct of the board and board/community relations. I would like to see more participation by residents and hope that I can create some enthusiasm amongst them to realize that goal. It is my opinion that the board exists to ensure property values remain stable or rise by: 1) governing maintenance and upkeep of personal properties and 2) making improvements to the community as a whole. Having said that, I would also like to see a shift in board priorities so that in addition to policing ARC violations some proactive improvements of community property may also be initiated. As the value and cost of single family homes in our area rises and large scale new construction of homes continues, it is paramount that we protect our home investments by continuing to improve our townhome community.

I look forward to working with my fellow board members, but more importantly, I look forward to serving my neighbors as a member of THEIR Homeowners Association Board.
